Playing Catch-Up

I suck.  I got all excited about blogging, and reading everyone else's blog... And then I totally dropped the blog, er, ball, and now I'm waaaay behind.  Grr.

I guess I have been pretty darn busy, though.  Quick update:  Paris was FREAKIN AMAZING!!!!  So much fun!  It was incredible and I'm so glad I went.  I'll post some pics soon.  I'm still trying to get them all edited and sorted and remember what/where everything was.  I loved London, too.  But Paris... Wow.  Dream come true!

Wedding plans are going well for the most part.  Only a little behind on the invitations - there was a glitch on the company's end and they lost my order.  But I think we're back on track now, and should have them out in the mail by next week.  All the details are starting to come together now, and we're seeing the big picture of the finished product.  I'm getting really excited.  It's going to be so beautiful!  And fun!  My mom and sister have been the most amazing wedding planning team.  I'm a lucky girl.

Erman and I are doing well.  He's remarkably patient with me and puts up with my mood swings (thanks, stupid birth control).  We found an apartment to move into.  It's in Parker and close to family, work, and school.  We get to move stuff into it May 5th.  Eeek!  Our first home together...  Surreal.

Forgive my moment of mushiness, but I really do love my dear fiance.  He's so good to me.  He always makes sure I have what I need and he tells me every day that I'm beautiful and how much he loves me.  Sometimes I just can't believe that I'd ever deserve such a wonderful man who'd want to spend his life with me.

I feel so blessed.   :)

Mmm, Delicieux!

Day 10: A photo of your favorite place to eat:

My favorite restaurant?  A French cafe, of course!  I can't wait to go to Paris and eat crepes every day.  YUM!!

Day 9

I'm attempting to catch up a little bit.

Day 9: A photo of the item you last purchased:

Ladies, if you would like to spice up your man's scent with something uh-mazing, I highly recommend a little Calvin Klein magic.  Got some of this for my honey for Valentine's Day.  LOVE.  IT.

Let me Just Blow the Dust Off This Here Blog...

Blog FAIL.  I've been quite distracted lately, hence my lack of blogging.  Apologies, fellow bloggers.  The reason for my negligence?

I GOT ENGAGED!!  WOOOOOOT!!!

Therefore, I need to revisit Blog Challenge Day 7:  Your Dream Wedding

First of all... Ring pic!

Now on to the planning.  A date has been set:  June 25, 2011.  A venue has been chosen: Maggiano's Little Italy in Englewood, Colorado.  Colors have been picked: deep plum and ivory.  A dress has been almost acquired: think vintage lace :).  Decorations are under way.  It's all coming together so nicely!

My ultimate dream wedding?  Well.  That requires renting a castle in Ireland... which is a leetle out of my price range.  Just a wee leetle bit.

The next best thing?  Exactly what we're doing.  I am so stinkin' excited about it all!  I love the venue.  It has such a fun atmosphere - warm and inviting and vintage-y.  LOVE it.  And the food will be absolutely amazing.

I realize most people are not familiar with my lovely fiance.  His name is Erman (Air-mahn) Ercin (Urchin).  He is half Greek, half Turkish, raised in Turkey.  He came to the states about 7 years ago without knowing any English, but is now thriving in our good ol' American education system, working on his second degree.  He does quite a bit of translation work - both for the Air Force and for our church (he was just asked to start working on the D&C!).  He's quite the smarty pants.  And he's wonderfully sincere and kind and has so  much motivation.  I found me a keeper!!

Sept, Mais Huit

Day 7 - Your dream wedding:

I'm actually gonna skip this one and come back to it later.

Day 8 - A song to match your mood:

Love this song.  Every time I hear it on the radio I get warm fuzzies inside.  Yeah, yeah, I know...  I'm so totally twitterpated.  Sorry for grossing you out, guys.

Plain White T's - Rhythm of Love

My head is stuck in the clouds
She begs me to come down
Says "Boy quit foolin' around"
I told her "I love the view from up here
The warm sun and wind in my ear
We'll watch the world from above
As it turns to the rhythm of love"
We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine
Play the Music low and sway to the rhythm of love
My heart beats like a drum
A guitar string to the strum
A beautiful song to be sung
She's got blue eyes deep like the sea
That roll back when she's laughing at me
She rises up like the tide
The moment her lips meet mine
We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine
Play the Music low and sway to the rhythm of love
When the moon is low
We can dance in slow motion
And all your tears will subside
All your tears will dry
And long after I've gone
You'll still be humming along
And I will keep you in my mind
The way you make love so fine
We may only have tonight
But till the morning sun you're mine all mine
Play the music low and sway to the rhythm of love

Six Little Koalas

A photo of an animal you'd love to keep as a pet:

I've always wanted a pet bunny.  But of course, I'm allergic to anything with fur, and couldn't even keep a hamster for more than a couple months (she got stuck in the couch once for five hours; another time got out of her cage and chewed a six inch hole in the carpet, plus destroyed a beanbag).  And I'm a serial fish killer.  I'm terrible with pets.  The only ones I can seem to keep are stuffed.  But one animal I really really really wanted when I was a kid is a koala bear.

I used to be nuts about koalas.  It all started when my grandparents went to New Zealand when I was in the second grade and brought me back a stuffed koala toy.  I. Loved. It.  I named her Koala Lou, after my favorite book.  She went everywhere with me.  I think I even sewed her some clothes at one point.  And since then I fantasized about having one for a pet.  (I still kinda do...)  I think maybe it's the ears.  They're so fluffy!!

Day Quatro

Your favorite photograph of your best friend:

This is a hard one.  I have a handful of beautiful souls in my life who I consider to be my best friends.  And each relationship is completely different.  I appreciate that in one friend I know I can always find something to laugh about, in another I can find very sound advice and logic, of one I know I'll find empathy, and so on.  Every close friend that has been a part of my life has definitely been there for a purpose.  The memories are plentiful, the stories are endless, and the connections are heartfelt.

But of all the people in my life, I'd have to say that these three I admire most:

My strong and diligent mother, my kind, selfless sister, and my dear sweet grandmother.  The three most exquisite kindred spirits I know.

Brownie Fail

I was so excited about my new mini cupcake maker that today I had the genius idea to make brownies in it.

Not such a genius idea after all...  A huge mess and an entire bowl of wasted brownie batter later, I had a bunch of burnt, squished lumps of what looked like something the cupcake making machine might have poo'ed.

Sad face.

Day 3

Your idea of the perfect first date:

I really don't know how to answer this one.  I've been on a whole buttload of crappy first dates, and another buttload of mediocre ones.  Oh.  No really.  Ask me sometime, I've got hours of entertainment for you on demand.  (Remind me to tell you about the infamous Pie Date someday. *shudder*)  Can't say that I ever had a perfect first date though, and I'm not sure what would constitute one.  In my experience, first dates are often riddled with awkward moments, nervous laughter, and bouts of silence in which you're both trying to pick a new topic of discussion but can't think of just the right thing to say.  (On one first date, the guy kept saying over and over "mmm, this is good pho" - I lost count of how many times he said it.)

Movies aren't great first dates because you don't get to talk to each other and actually engage in conversation.  But strictly dinner can lead to too much opportunity for conversation without enough distraction, and you run out of topics.  Girls typically don't like to get all sweaty and gross when they're trying to make a good first impression on a guy, so physical activity is out.  We don't live by the ocean, so a walk on the beach isn't an option.  Horseback riding is painful and smelly.  And amusement parks are totally fun, but could be embarrassing, and are usually pretty expensive.

Maybe it's best to just keep it nice and simple.  Like a coffee/hot chocolate date.  Or an ice cream date.  Enough time to have some conversation, but not too much awkward silence.  Enough of a taste to decide whether you'd like to know/see more of the person.

Hmm.  I'd like to hear other opinions on this topic.  What's YOUR idea of a perfect first date?

Jour Deux

Day 2 - A photo of something you ate today.

Last night I pulled out some of my new Christmas presents and set to work baking a masterpiece.  You see, I got this awesome cupcake maker from ma mere, along with all the works to decorate them.  This was the perfect gift for me.  I. Love. To. Bake.

Alors, the cupcakes turned out just lovely.  I used a lemon cake mix and threw in a bunch of poppy seeds to make them lemon poppy seed cupcakes.  Then I zested some fresh lemon into some lemon frosting, added some edible glitter (my FAVORITE) and topped it with a yummy blueberry (found them on sale at the store - woot!!).  The cupcake pedestal was also part of the gift.  So cute, right?  Voila:

Behold, my army of miniature cupcakes:

I completely underestimated just how many mini cupcakes one cake mix could make, so I was swimming in cupcakes! It sucked up a bunch of time, or else I woulda pulled out the piping tools and played with the frosting designs.  Next time, for sure.

Every time I bake, I get the notion that I should quit my life, run away to culinary school, and live happily ever after as a plump little baker in Paris.  Hey, a girl can dream, right?

I'm hoping some of you may have picked up on all the little French references today...  And why is that, you ask?  Well, because last night I did something completely insane... and BOUGHT A TICKET TO PARIS!!!!  Oh yeah, baby!!  I'm finally gonna go to la ville d'amour!  This has been such a long time coming.  I was so emotional last night, I cried when I clicked the "purchase ticket" button.  It's gonna take me a while to come down from the clouds.

Cupcakes and Paris, all in one day.  So happy!!
I want to blog tonight.  Really, I do.  I promise.  I even took some pics today to post.  But I took too much Nyquil and the room is now spinning.

Alors, a demain, mes cheres.

Day 1

A photo of yourself and description of your day:

Well, I have absolutely no idea how to upload a photo...  So I'll start with a description of my day.  Not sure if that means the "typical" day, or today specifically.  My typical work day begins at about 6:30 a.m.  (Okay, that's a lie.  I hit snooze so many times that it really doesn't begin till 7.)  I head off to work, which is typically pretty busy with patients and scheduling appointments and doing all kinds of things around the office.

For those who don't know, I am a dental assistant - more specifically an Orthodontic Technician, but most people will look at ya funny if you say that.  What that means is that I work for an orthodontist as an assistant.  I get to put braces on people's teeth, adjust the braces, take them off, make retainers, take xrays, make cool appliances like expanders, make models of teeth, and all kinds of other amazingly cool stuff.  I actually REALLY love my job!  I find it pretty rewarding.  Always something new to learn, always an interesting case to work on, and I get to help people have beautiful smiles!  I like to stay busy, so the fast pace is good for me.  And I'm definitely a very detail-oriented perfectionist, so this is pretty much the perfect career for me.  I feel so blessed to be at a job I love.

I usually head home about 6 p.m. and then collapse on the couch to unwind for a bit.  Then comes the par-tay!  I'm definitely a night owl, and there's always something to do, people to see, places to go.  And now that I have a new boyfriend, there's someone to do all the fun crazy things with!  Good thing he's a night owl too.

Today I did none of the above.  The office was closed for the day, so I slept, went to the chiropractor (fell down the stairs last week - OUCH!  There's a giant bruise the size and shape of Texas on my poor little-ish ass.), met my dear friend Prasanthi for lunch last minute, then slept some more in an attempt to get rid of a heinous headache.  Met the bf at Institute tonight, followed by showing up at a bar to support my friend's husband's rock band.  Overall, kinda a weird but good day.  And now I'm blogging about it.

I'll work on that picture... Hang tight for a minute...  Oh!  There's an insert image button.  How handy.

Voila!  Okay, okay, just kidding.  I'm not an awesome movie star making millions of deniro.  :(

This is the absolute most hideous picture of me ever taken.  Be amazed and count yourselves lucky that I've decided to share it.

I took a fabulous road trip with some of my best girlies to California two years ago for New Years.  They buried me alive on the beach then tortured me with numerous pictures.  Ahh, such a crazy trip!!

Adios for now, amigos, and bonus nachos!  Hasta manana!
